Massage Therapy

We begin to unplug from certain areas in our body when we encounter repetitive stress, chronic pain, anxiety, injury, trauma and depression. As blood flow decreases to these areas muscle tension builds up and marks its territory with a migraine, stiff neck, aching back. I believe massage encourages a balance between our physical and emotional wellbeing. Through soothing and nurturing touch a thawing can occur.

General Relaxation and Stress Reduction

I allow time before each therapeutic treatment to check-in with my clients and discuss their treatment goals for each session. By combining the use of moist heat, Swedish massage and essential oils, local circulation is increased to soft tissue. Heat also calms the nervous system and helps to relax muscle tone and loosen fascia. Throughout the treatment I encourage clients to explore their breath through guided relaxation techniques. I also incorporate supported stretching and demonstrate useful stretches to enhance joint flexibility and balance.

Depression

One in 10 adults will experience depression each year. It affects men, women, senior adults, teens and even children. Therapeutic massage is an effective way to reduce the stress hormones in the body. Massage research indicates lower levels of anxiety in depressed individuals and an increase in self-esteem and well being. I have witnessed a slowing down and deepening breath patterns, enhanced body awareness, and deeper sleep following massage with my clients. Some clients have expressed how fantastic it was to actually feel their bodies and not be worried for that time period on the table. They are able to let go, feel nurtured, grounded and better equipped to reunite with family and friends.

Trauma

I believe touch enhances our ability to slow down, calm the nervous system and connect with ourselves and others. By creating a trusting environment – safety is established and body awareness and healthy touch boundaries may be re-discovered.

Eating Disorders and Addiction

Touch is a therapeutic adjunct to professional psychological assistance for individuals suffering from anorexia or other eating disorders. Therapeutic massage creates an opportunity to reacquaint yourself with your body and it normal signals of pain, joy, hunger, fullness, etc. It helps to work through the numbness that is associated with eating disorders and addictions. It is my honor to help individuals come back home to their bodies with confidence in their self and trust in their body.
